AN ENDANGERED SPECIES AND THE DIFFERENT WAYS OF SAVING IT WITH HANDS-ON CONSERVATION, AND WHY.

"The Southern Ground Hornbill is a co-operative breeder living in groups of 2 - 12 birds. It is the largest, longest living and slowest breeding hornbill. On average they only raise to fledging one chick every 9 years, and each group only has one breeding female. Stories of harvesting doomed second-hatched chicks from nests in high trees in the Kruger National Park, hand-rearing these chicks for release back into our manufactured group on Mabula and setting up a captive breeding programme with zoos around the world.
